IT Hardware/s in Agriculture
All these years, most of the Hardware/s used for Information Technology has gone through major transformation. In many instances, custom designed Hardware/s is being developed to suit clients/purpose specific requirements. However, this progress has not as yet looked into the requirements of agriculture sector. Information Technology tools and Hardware/s alone have had limited utility in agriculture. It has only been in recent past that integration of Information Technology (IT) with Information Communication Technology (ICT) has started happening and all of a sudden, hybrid applications have started becoming more and more relevant to agriculture sector.
For quite some time, IT applications alone or in combination with ICT have been experimented for conventional agriculture. This type of farming operations do not add enough value for the incremental costs and thus has always been considered as a development initiative. However, in case of organic methods of production, the value addition is good enough to pay for the cost of IT-ICT costs. The complete list of Hardware/s identified for applications in agriculture has been segregated into seven categories as below:
1. Input Devices
2. Data Processing
3. Data Storage Devices
4. Networking and Data Transmission Tools
5. Display Devices
6. Data Reproduction and Peripherals
7. Other Tools
An attempt is being made to do a brief analysis of Hardware/s that are either already available in the market or are being at various stages of development for their use in organic agriculture.
